Is it covered by insurance companies?

ThyroTest® costs less than the normal TSH test, but that figure will vary greatly according to your insurance coverage.  ThyroTest® should be covered by insurance companies as well as Medicare and Medicaid.

Can you buy ThyroTest ® at drugstores?
No. ThyroTest® is for professional use only.  The test should be performed and interpreted by a medical professional.

Does ThyroTest ® measure T3 or T4 levels?
No. ThyroTest® is a screening device that tests for elevated levels of TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone).  Elevated TSH levels are recognized as a likely marker for diagnosing hypothyroidism.

Does ThyroTest ® give a quantitative (number) result?
ThyroTest® is a qualitative test that shows “positive” when TSH levels exceed 5 uIU/ml – the recognized standard for the upper levels of normal TSH.  The results will indicate a patients' abnormally high level, but not give an actual quantitative value.

Is a “positive” ThyroTest ® a definitive diagnosis for hypothyroidism?
ThyroTest® is designed to be an initial screening device to aid physicians in the diagnosis of Hypothyroidism.  It will be the decision of your doctor to do additional blood tests to determine the exact nature of the thyroid problem if ThyroTest® is “positive”.

Can ThyroTest ® help to diagnose hyperthyroidism (over-active thyroid)?
ThyroTest® is not designed to detect TSH levels low enough to determine hyperthyroidism. TSH Levels are very low or undetectable in hyperthyroidism.
